IntroductionMany portable and handheld computers do not provide a parallel port. When they do, the built-in port often cannot function in EPP mode. Quatech's SPP-100 is an ideal choice in these situations when a high speed parallel interface is required. For example, the SPP-100 is currently being used in several portable medical applications to provide EEG and EKG tests to patients in remote areas who would otherwise need to travel hours to reach the nearest hospital. It is used as part of a real-time scoring system for stock-car racing, and as an interface for an electronic sewing machine. Of course, the most common use is to provide a high-speed printer port when one is not provided by the PC. Quatech's SPP-100 is a pcmcia parallel port which fully supports the IEEE 1284 EPP standard, and functions exactly like a computer's native parallel port. Thus, unlike the many USB to parallel converters on the market, Quatech's SPP-100 will work seamlessly with any hardware or software that requires either an EPP or standard parallel port. Your software will see the SPP-100 as a standard parallel port. Many customers have come to us for the SPP-100 for use in laptops without parallel ports where they require a parallel port for a hardware dongle (typically a piece of external hardware plugged into the parallel port which installed software interrogates to ensure that only licensed copies of software are run). The SPP has a 25 way female D-SUB connector which is the same as parallel ports found on all PCs. |

This is nothing to do with the parallel port - some customers have found this after upgrading to a laptop with Windows XP from a laptop with Windows 98SE. The SPP-100 has been used with the Sentinel System Driver (used to validate a range of hardware dongles) under Windows 2000/XP (requires Sentinel version 5.41 or above). |

SPP-100 Single Port EPP PCMCIA To Parallel Port Card (CP-SPP cable included) Important - this is for laptops with either a 16 bit PCMCIA or 32 bit Cardbus slot. This module will not fit into the new 'Express Card' slot that some new laptops use. Express Card is a different technology to the older socket - it won't work. An Express Card version of this module is available. Quatech cards come in a retail box with manual/driver CD and cable (where necessary) |
